Loxely, Ala. — Rice is in eighth-place heading into the final round of the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational.
The Owls carded rounds of 299-293 to sit 16-over par. 31st-ranked Kennesaw State leads the tournament at 18-under par.
"We were really out of character today and made some mistakes that we don't usually make," said head coach Justin Emil. "Mitchell (Meissner) really stepped up in the second round and helped us get back on track. We're expecting tomorrow to be a good day."
Junior Mitchell Meissner is tied for 18th-place at one-over par. He opened with a 76 but rebounded by carding a second round 69. It is his fourth round of par or better this year and the 16th of his career. It is also his second round of the year in the 60's and the third of his career.
Junior Mario Carmona shot a 74-73/147 to sit in a 28th-place tie at three-over par. Freshman Trevor Brown is tied for 46th-place at nine-over par after posting rounds of 76-77/153.
