HOUSTON— Rice will honor the 1970 Southwest Conference championship team during halftime of the January 30 game against North Texas, scheduled for 7 p.m.
The 1970 Southwest Conference Champions were the last Rice squad to make the NCAA Tournament. That year's team, led by Head Coach Don Knodel, finished 14-11 and 10-4 in the Southwest Conference. The team earned victories over Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, SMU and TCU before falling to New Mexico State in the NCAA Tournament. They were led by a pair of eventual 1,000-Point scorers in Gary Reist and Tom Myer.
For its play during the season, the team will be presented with championship rings at halftime.
