Rice senior Natalie Beazant opens her pursuit to become a two-time All-America on Wednesday when she faces Texas' Breaunna Addison in a match scheduled forapproximately 5 p.m. in the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
Match times are tentative as morning rains in Waco have pushed back the start of the first day of singles competition for both the men and women. For updates, please check the NCAA Tennis Tournament Central page.
Beazant earned All-American honors as a sophomore in 2013 after reaching the quarterfinals, joining Wendy Wood (1985 & 86) as the only Owl to earn the designation in singles. Beazant has a career mark of 4-2 in NCAA singles competition and needs one victory to surpass Wood (4-3) for the most NCAA singles wins in school history.
She brings a 19-3 record into action on Wednesday in addition to being ranked 32nd nationally while Addison (13-7) comes in ranked 52nd. The two have split two career singles matches. Beazant took a three-set win to score one of the Owl's points in a 4-3 loss to Texas earlier this year. Addison defeated Beazant in three-sets during the 2014 dual meeting between the two schools.
