
Beall Named Conference USA Swimmer of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Rice sophomore Kiley Beall has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week for Oct. 20-26, the league office announced Tuesday (Oct. 27) from its headquarters in Irving, Texas.
Beall posted the fastest two individual times in the conference so far this season while competing against No. 23 Arkansas, Houston and Incarnate Word in the 2015 Rice Invitational last week. In the two-day, four team, 18-event home meet at the Owls' Competition Pool, Beall won the 100-yard butterfly from among a field of 25 entries with a new C-USA best time of 57.27. She also placed third in the in the 200-butterfly with a league-best mark of 2:04.68.
The Lexington Park, Maryland, native was also fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.50 that is among the top five in the conference this year. Her 2:09.09 in the meet's 200-yard individual medley also is among the league's top five currently. At the Invitational Beall also swam the third leg of both the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays, where the Owls notched both of C-USA's top times with marks of 1:45.33 and 3:50.84, respectively. This is the sophomore's first award of her career. Marshall's Megan Wolons was named the diver of the week.
The Rice swimmers are back in action next with a pair of home dual meets this weekend, Oct. 30-31. The Owls host C-USA opponent North Texas at the Rice Competition Pool on Friday at 4 pm, followed longtime rival SMU on Saturday at 11 am.
