The Rice women's tennis team concluded their schedule at the 2015 ITA Kickoff Weekend on Sunday, dropping a 6-1 decision to host Northwestern at the Combe Tennis Center in Evanston, Illinois on Sunday morning.
The 21st ranked Owls picked up a win by senior Natalie Beazant for their lone point on the day as the 17th ranked Wildcats rebounded from an upset loss to Arizona State on Saturday. The Owls fell to 1-2 on the season after the first of six consecutive matches against teams ranked in the top 40 over a four-week stretch.
"Obviously, we are not satisfied with the result of these past two matches," Rice head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. "However, it is early in the season and I am confident with the right attitude and mindset, our team and staff will use this as an opportunity to grow. We saw some glimpses of what we are capable of but need to continue to work hard to improve and play at a high level more consistently. "
The Owls will be back in action on the road next Saturday when they travel to Austin to take on the University of Texas in a noon dual.
