Incarnate Word Box Score / UTPA Box Score
The Rice men's tennis showed little impact from being forced indoors by cold damp conditions in Houston, blanking Incarnate Word and Texas Pan American by identical 6-0 scores in dual matches held at the Downtown Club in Houston.
"I liked our approach today, we got right to work as soon as we hit the courts," Rice head coach Efe Ustundag said. "We showed great energy from the start and didn't allow either match to ever get into any trouble. In the few spots where we struggled a bit at the start, we were able to get things back under control."
With the matches forced indoors, singles were held first and the Owls won 24 of 25 sets on the day. Sophomore David Warren ran his season record to 4-0 with two wins on the day, the second coming in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep to lead the way for the Owls on the day.
Senior Srikar Alla shook off a first-set loss in his evening match on Court 1 to take a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over UTPA's Juan Cruz Soria to close out the evening's action.
The Owls will be back in action on Sunday when host Old Dominion in an 11 a.m. dual at George R Brown Tennis Center.
