SACRAMENTO, California - Former Rice track and field standout Funmi Jimoh placed third in the long jump at Saturday's USA Track and Field Championships, hosted by Sacramento State University.
Jimoh, a volunteer coach for the Owls, jumped 6.81m (22-4.25) to earn a trip to the medal stand. That jump was good enough for the 10th-best distance in the world.
Jimoh recorded the 22-4.25 mark on her second attempt before four consecutive fouls. Only Brittney Reese (Nike- 6.92m) and Tianna Bartoletta (UNA- 6.86m) finished ahead of her.
Jimoh also placed third at the USATF Outdoor Championships last year, with a distance of 22-0.25.
The Owls were also represented on the men's side by Clayton Chaney, who placed 11th in the decathlon with 7253 points.
