TULSA, Okla.- Rice fell 74-52 in the C-USA Women's Basketball Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Jessica Kuster scored 15 points in defeat.
Tulsa (14-16) led by as many as 10 points with 4:34 left in the first half, but the Owls managed to claw back into the game before the break, keyed by a Megan Shafer three-pointer that capped a 12-4 run to bring the Owls to within two. The Golden Hurricane entered the break with a 30-28 lead.
Rice (14-16) led off the second half on an 8-2 run, with six points scored by Jessica Kuster, to take a 36-32 lead. However, the Golden Hurricane came back to go on a 16-0 run to build an insurmountable lead, winning 74-52.
Kuster scored in double figures for sixth straight game and the 27th time this season. The C-USA Defensive Player of the Year finishes the season averaging a double double, making her one of two juniors (also: Ebony Rowe, Middle Tennesse) to have averaged a double double in 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13. She matched her career-high with six assists.
Christal Porter scored 10 points, giving her double figures for the sixth time in seven games
Shafer scored 12 points, giving her 9+ points in three of her last four games.
