Jim West Intercollegiate Final Results
VICTORIA, Texas - Rice University freshman Tommy Economou closed out play at the Jim West Intercollegiate with a 73 on Tuesday to finish with a three-round 218 score (+2) and tie for 18th individually at the Texas State-hosted tournament. The event marked Economou's first career, Top 20 finish.
As a team, Rice shot a final round 300 to finish with a three-round score of 892 (+28) to post a 10th-place finish.
Starting at No. 9, Economou was four-over par on the back nine before getting on track with an eagle on No. 1. He went on to birdie two of his next three holes en route to playing the final round one-over par.
Rice sophomore Jeff Wibawa started his final round on the back nine with a triple bogey at No. 11 but also found success after the turn on the Victoria Country Club course. Wibawa had four birdies on the front nine and finished with a 71 to finish the tournament with a 221 score (+5) and tie for 32nd.
Led by Garrett Driver's final-round 63 and a 69 by Scott Kelly, Sam Houston State shot a final-round 274 team score to finish with an 851 and win the tournament title by 12 strokes over second-place Stephen F. Austin.
SFA's Mitchell McLeroy shot a final round 70 to card a three-round 207 (-9) and hold off Driver for a one-stroke win in the individual standings.
Rice competes next Monday and Tuesday at The Woodlands All-American Intercollegiate. The University of Houston-hosted event is the final tournament prior to the Conference USA Championship slated for April 22-24 in Texarkana, Ark.
