
Owls Move to Seventh at Jim West Intercollegiate

VICTORIA, Texas - Rice freshman Tommy Economou shot a 71 and the Owls climbed to seventh during Monday's second round of the Jim West Intercollegiate. The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes Tuesday at the Victoria Country Club.
Led by Economou's round, the Owls shot a 294 on Monday and have a two-round 592 score through 36 holes of the tournament.
At +16 for the tournament, Rice is eight strokes back of sixth-place Houston-Victoria.
Led by Jarred Bossio's 66 on Monday, Idaho grabbed a five-stroke lead in the team standings after two days. Idaho shot a 280 as a team and the Vandals have a two-round score of 572 (-4). Sam Houston State is in second place with a 577 while first-round leader Stephen F. Austin shot a 296 on Monday to fall to third a two-round score of 580.
Bossio is eight-under for the tournament (136) and has a one stroke lead over SFA's Mitchell McLeroy.
Rice's Economou is currently tied for 16th with a two-round 145 (+1). Starting at No. 10, Economou played the back nine at even par. He birdied Nos. 1 and 6 before giving a stroke back at No. 7.
The Owls have three golfers all tied for 32nd at the tournament with 150 two-round scores - Jeff Wibawa, Brock Wilson and Ryan Benevides.
The final round is set for an 8 am. shotgun start on Tuesday. Rice will be paired with UTSA and Cal State Fullerton for the final round.
