
Women's Hoops Pushes Winning Streak To Five

HOUSTON, Texas- Rice extended its winning streak to five games as the Owls downed UTPA 75-54 at Tudor Fieldhouse. Jessica Kuster led the Owls with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
The Owls used a 14-0 run early in the first half to take an 18-8 advantage and maintained the 10-point spread going into to halftime at 38-28.The Owls maintained that advantage through the second half to eventually beat UTPA (5-8) by 21.
The Owls (7-4) posted their seventh win of the non-conference season, which ties for the most non-conference wins since 2000-01, when the Owls went 8-4 in the non-conference season.
Rice is 6-1 at Tudor Fieldhouse in 2012-13, and 11-3 at home in the calendar year of 2012. The Owls only home loss this season came to No. 3 Baylor.
Senior Zoe Rogers made her first career start, and posted her second consecutive double-digit scoring game. She scored 16 points, 10 of which came in the first half.
Jessica Kuster posted her fifth double-double in the past six games, scoring 18 points and posting 10 rebounds.
Megan Shafer matched her career-high with 10 points, while Alyssa Lang set her career-high with eight points.
Sophomore Christal Porter posted 14 rebounds, one shy of her career-high, set in her last game against UTSA.
