Erin Flanigan Posts Owls' Top Finish Saturday At USA Swimming Austin Grand Prix

With another solid showing in her hometown, freshman Erin Flanigan was Rice's top finisher Saturday at the USA Swimming Austin Grand Prix.
Flanigan finished 56th among a field of more than 160 entrants in the 200-meter freestyle at the USA Swimming-sanctioned meet. She swam a long-course time of 2:06.64, which converts to a near-season best 1:50.68 in short-course yards.
Fellow Rice freshman Casey Clark was 82nd overall in the 200-freestyle with a 2:08.22 (1:52.06 SCY). She was was also 82nd among a field of 154 in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 27.33 (a SCY season-best 24.15).
A total of five Owls are competing at the meet. The Rice senior tandem of Shelby Bottoms (5:14.58) and Alex O'Brien (5:15.89) were 80th and 82nd, respectively, in the 400-IM. Sophomore Michelle Gean was 94th in the 200-backstroke with a 2:28.77.
