HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Rice University sophomore Jeff Wibawa fired a one-under par 70 Tuesday to finish in a tie for 23rd at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate hosted by Conference USA rival Southern Mississippi.
Wibawa began the day tied for 32nd. After opening final-round play with a bogey on No. 10, Wibawa had back-to-back birdies on Nos. 12 and 13 before going on to have two more bogeys balanced with two birdies over the remaining holes of the round.
As a team, Rice shot a three-round 888 (+15) to place 14th in the team standings.
UAB's Jason Shufflebottam shot a 66 Tuesday to help lead the Blazers to a four-stroke win. UAB shot a three-round 836 which included a 273 on Tuesday. South Alabama carded a final-round 280 to finish with an 840, four strokes ahead of third-place Louisiana-Lafayette.
South Alabama's Blake Kelley, who had a two-stroke lead to begin the final round, shot a 71 Tuesday to finish in a tie with Shufflebottam to share medalist honors. Both golfers finished with three-round 204 (-9) scores.
Rice returns to action the first of next month when the team travels to the LaTech Squire Creek Invitational on Oct. 3-4.
