
Waite Places Seventh at World University Games

Rice volunteer assistant track and field coach Lennie Waite placed seventh in the women's 3000m steeplechase at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China. Waite, who was born in Scotland, and is a doctoral candidate at the University of Houston, posted a time of 9:58.29. Turkey's Binnaz Uslu won the event in 9:33.50.
She is also a former NCAA Women of the Year nominee, one of 10 Division 1 honorees from all sports, combined. Waite is a two-time Rice All-America. She placed fifth in the 3000m steeplechase in 2009 and was sixth in the mile at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championship. Waite still holds the Rice 3000m steeplechase record with a time to 9:50.48.
