
Texas A&M Defeats Rice, 6-1

HOUSTON - Texas A&M swept the doubles competition then won five matches in singles play en route to a 6-1 victory over Rice on Wednesday at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
With the win, the fifth-ranked Aggies improve to 18-4. Rice, ranked No. 37, is now 13-5 on the year. The Owls travel to Austin Saturday to take on No. 7 Texas.
Against Texas A&M, the Owls' lone win came at No. 3 singles where Sam Garforth-Bles defeated Alexey Grigorov 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Rice also forced three-set matches at No. 1 and No. 5 singles.
Sophomore Peter Frank, playing at No. 1 for just the third time this spring, began play with a 7-6 (7-5) victory over 26th-ranked Austin Krajicek. The Texas A&M senior would come back to win the final two sets 6-3, 10-6.
At No. 5 singles, Rice junior Michael Nuesslein also won an opening set but would lose a second-set tiebreaker as the Aggies Alberto Bautista came back to win the match 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-4.
