EUGENE, Ore. - Rice University senior golfer Michael Whitehead shot a one-under par 71 Monday afternoon and is tied for 11th after two rounds of the University of Oregon's Duck Invitational being played at Eugene Country Club. Whitehead has a two-round score of 143 (-1).
Rice will begin the final round of the tournament in a tie for 14th place with Portland. Both squads have two-round team scores of 609 (+33). The Owls rebounded from an opening round 312 to shoot a 297 later in the day. The Owls' second round was better than the second round of all but five teams in the tournament field.
In addition to Portland, the Owls will be paired with Conference USA rival UAB for Tuesday morning's final round which is set for a shotgun start.
Rice will begin the day just 10 strokes back of the Top 10. San Francisco and Idaho are currently tied for 10th with two-round 599s.
Jeff Wibawa also fired an afternoon 71 to come back from a 77 to begin the tournament. The Rice freshman is currently tied for 34th with a two-round 148 (+4).
Oregon State's Alex Moore shot a 63 Monday afternoon, and with a 136 through two rounds, has a two-stroke lead in the individual standings ahead of second-place Chris Williams from the University of Washington.
No. 1 ranked Oklahoma State leads the team standings with a two-round score of 570 (-6). The Cowboys have a three-stroke lead over host Oregon and a six-stroke lead over third-place Washington.
