Louisiana Tech Bulldog Classic Final Results
CHOUDRANT, La. - Rice University senior Michael Whitehead closed out play at the Louisiana Tech Bulldog Classic with an even-par 72 to post a sixth-place finish Tuesday at the 54-hole, three-day tournament.
As a team, the Owls shot a 298 on Tuesday to finish with a three-round score of 904 and finish in ninth place.
"The conditions were a lot easier today," said Rice coach Drew Scott. "The golf course was there for the taking. There were still some challenging flags, but we just didn't execute as well as we could have."
Whitehead began the tournament with back-to-back 73s before his even par round Tuesday to finish with a three-round score of 218 (+2). He finished five strokes back of individual champion Hunter Green of Middle Tennessee State.
Green also helped MTSU to the team championship. The Blue Raiders shot a low round 290 on Tuesday to further distance themselves from the field and finish with a three-round score of 868 (+4) to finish 18 strokes in front of second place finisher, Louisiana Tech (886). Southeastern Louisiana shot an 891 to finish third.
For the second straight day, Rice played without senior golf Tim Pawul who suffered a pulled muscle in his back during Sunday's opening round. His condition will be evaluated this week ahead of the Owls' traveling to the West Coast for their next tournament.
Rice returns to action next Monday and Tuesday at the Duck Invitational hosted by the University of Oregon at the Eugene (Ore.) Country Club.
