Christian Saravia won in straight sets at the No. 6 singles position to cap a rally and give the Rice Owls a 4-2 win over Tulane at the Hilton River Center Indoor Tennis Center in New Orleans on Friday.
The match was moved indoors and also up an hour on the schedule due to the winter storms that have blanketed the Gulf Coast. The match was also shortened to play to the clinching fourth point and the order was reversed with singles played first.
Tulane (2-1) took a 2-1 lead after wins at No. 2 and 3 bracketed a win by Rice's Harry Fowler at the No. 1 position. But the Owls (5-1) stormed back to eliminate the need for the doubles portion of the schedule as Philipp Seifert and Oscar Podlewski joined with Saravia to win in straight sets and give the Owls the clinching fourth point.
The 29th ranked Owls will close out their road swing to Louisiana when they face 46th ranked LSU on Sunday in Baton Rouge.
