Sam Hall Intercollegiate Round 2 Results
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Rice University's 2010-11 season got off to a slow start on Monday as the Owls shot a two-round score of 592 (301-291) to find itself in 15th place after 36 holes of the Sam H. Hall Intercollegiate being played at Hattiesburg Country Club.
The final 18 holes of the season opener will take place Tuesday morning.
"We played better this afternoon which is good," said Rice golf coach Drew Scott. "We eliminated a lot of the mistakes we made this morning but we still feel like we have a long way to go. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. We made a lot of early-year mistakes that we did not have last year or the past couple of weeks. This golf course really exposed those weaknesses."
Rice senior Michael Whitehead is four-over par (72-74-146) and is tied for 47th through two rounds. Rice has three golfers who are all currently tied for 65th with two-round scores of 149 - Robert Burrow, Jeff Wibawa and Erik Mayer.
Kennesaw State shot a 559 on Monday and has a one-stroke lead over Louisiana-Lafayette and a two-stroke lead over Louisiana Tech.
UL-Lafayette's Andrew Noto shot a two-round score of 133 (68-65) and has a one-stroke lead over Kennesaw State's Jeff Karlsson who fired a two-round score of 134 (65-69) to currently own second at the tournament.
