Houston - A large contingent of fans witnessed a lot of great action during the final day of the 28th Annual Victor Lopez Classic at the Rice Track Stadium.
Rice sprinter Shakera Reece ran a strong 100m to place second in a time of 11.82, just behind Meritzer Williams, running for Elite Performance, who won in 11.81. Lillina Nwora led Rice in the 400m with a 10th place time of 57.71. Reece also was seventh in the 200 (24.31).
Sophomore Sophie Peeters was fourth in the 800m (2:14.57). In the 100m hurdles, Kim Stanford placed sixth (14.66). Sojourner Brown finished third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.81, while Brittany Washington was sixth (1:03.87).
The Owls 4x100m relay team of Stanford, Sarah Lyons, Washington, and Reece was fourth with a time of 46.71. The 4x400m squad Sojourner Brown, Lillian Nwora, Vicki Walker, and Brittany Washington finished fourth at 3:46.7.
In the high jump, Tiffany Gill was seventh at 1.65m/5-5, while Shannon Moran was 10th (1.50m/4-11). Ariana Ince placed second in the pole vault at 3.95m/12-11.5 and Cleona Oliver was fourth at 3.65m/11-11.75. Moran was also 10th in the long jump (5.68m/18-7.75). Ince also won the javelin with a mark of 42.61m/139-9.
Sarah Agara finished second in the triple jump at 12.34m/40-6. Ince also won the javelin with a mark of 42.61m
Brittany Brown led Rice in the discus with a fifth-place throw of 42.77m/140-4. Tina Robinson was eighth at 41.51m/136-2.
In the hammer throw, Rice's Katie Dollinger captured the event with a winning mark of 50.43m/165-5. Tina Robinson was third at 49.87m/163-7, while Brittany Brown was seventh (43.12m/141-6), and Sharae Robinson was eighth (42.76m).
