
Owls Begin Rice Invitational with 4-0 Victory

HOUSTON - Rice opened play at the 52nd Rice Invitational with a 4-0 win over Conference USA rival Tulane Friday afternoon.
Rice, now 7-8, won the doubles point before having three singles matches decided in straight sets. With the match victory secured, three other singles matches went unfinished. Saturday's matches of the 52nd Rice Invitational will begin simultaneously at 12:30 p.m. at The Galleria Tennis and Athletic Club. Rice takes on North Carolina State while the Green Wave play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Rice posted wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to grab an early lead in Friday's match against Tulane. Playing at No. 2, Bruno Rosa and Isamu Tachibana teamed for an 8-4 win over Rodrigo Rappaccioli and Adam Bernstein. At No. 3, Dennis Polyakov and Oscar Podlewski defeated Trevor Getz and Etham Frenkel.
In singles play, Rosa posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Shaye Wali to give Rice a 2-0 advantage. Playing at No. 6, Jonathan Chang beat Frenkel 6-1, 6-3 before Sam Garforth-Bles, playing at No. 4, defeated Rappaccioli 6-3, 6-0.
Also on Friday, North Carolina State defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 4-1. NC State improved to 11-3 while A&M-Corpus Christi is now 5-10.
