Tulsa Beats Rice 80-46

Tulsa, Okla. - Tulsa's Larissa Williams notched a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Tulsa Golden Hurricane to an 80-46 victory over the Rice Owls at the Reynolds Center.
Rice guard Tara Watts sank a three-pointer to tie the game at 10-10, but TU (9-13, 3-8) then proceeded to go on a 9-2 run, with all of the points scored by Williams, to keep the lead for good. At the half, Tulsa held a 37-24 lead by shooting 47 percent as Williams made 7 of 9 from the field and all four free throws for 18 of her 29 points. The Owls committed 13 turnovers and shot 35 percent in the first 20 minutes.
It did not get better in the second-half for Rice (11-13, 5-6). TU outscored the Owls 43-22 with 44 percent shooting from the field in the final 20 minutes, while the Owls canned eight field goals and shot 36 percent.
For the game, Williams made 10 of 15 field goals and was 9-10 at the stripe. She received scoring help from Taleya Mayberry (17 points) and Denise Lewis scored 14 points on 6-6 shooting and 2-2 free throws.
Watts and D'Frantz Smart led the Owls with 8 points apiece, while Jackie Stanley had 7 points. Grabbing a team-high 8 rebounds for Rice was Morgan Mayse.
Rice is on the road again next weekend as its plays at UCF on Thursday (6 p.m. CT) and at Southern Miss on Saturday (4 p.m.).
