
Taskila Notches Double-Double as Rice Defeats UCF 65-59

Orlando - Jackie Stanley scored a game-high 21 points and freshman reserve center Opal Taskila registered her first career double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Rice Owls to a 65-59 road victory over the UCF Knights at the UCF Arena.
Taskila's point and rebound totals are career-highs. Stanley made 8-15 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line and also blocked two shots.
The victory marks Rice's first Conference USA road win since Feb. 23, 2008, when the Owls won at Tulsa, 57-49, and puts an end to a streak of 12 consecutive C-USA losses on the road. Rice is now 12-13 overall, 6-6 in C-USA, and 1-4 in C-USA away games (5-1 home). UCF drops to 7-14 and 4-8 in league action.
UCF was ahead by 10 (15-5) after a layup by D'Nay Daniels at 13:37. But, the Owls battled back and outscored the Knights 14 to 4 to tie it at 19 (2:50) and then went into the locker room at the half with a slim 27-26 lead. Stanley (11) and Taskila (8) combined to score 19 points in the first 20 minutes.
Rice, shooting 52 percent in the second-half, reached its biggest lead of the contest at 60-46 with 2:54 to play. The Owls for the game shot 43 percent (24-56) from the field and limited UCF to 33 percent (23-69). Rice also made 14-21 free throws, while the Knights converted 8 of 15 from the charity stripe.
Also in double-figure scoring for the Owls were D'Frantz Smart with 14 points (7 assists) and Amenemope McKinney came of the bench and contributed 11 points with 4 assists in 30 minutes of action.
UCF was led by D'Nay Daniels and Marshay White, who each scored 15 points. Daniels also had 10 rebounds, while Emma Cannon grabbed 12 rebounds and scored 7 points.
