Four Rice student-athletes joined with student-athletes from the University of Houston to help the organizing committee for the 2011 NCAA Men's Final Four kick of their "68 Courts in 68 Days" community initiative by working to refurbish Eastwood Park in Houston on Thursday.
Rice men's basketball players Emerson Herndon and Lucas Kuipers, women's basketball player Jackie Stanley and football player Tyler Parish were on hand to paint benches, clear trash and help with the installation of two new backboards at the park.
"68 Courts in 68 Days" is a community initiative designed by the HLOC. The program will renovate 68 deserving basketball courts across the city of Houston. The total, 68, signifies the number of teams that will be in the NCAA Final Four 2011 bracket.
The HLOC is looking for other basketball courts in the Houston-area that needs some touch ups. Individuals or organizations should contact nominateyourcourt@houstonloc.org to nominate a court for this program.
The NCAA Men's Final Four will be held at Reliant Stadium on April 2 and 4, 2011
