Rice led the way with three selections as the 11 members of the 2010 Conference USA Football All-Academic Team were announced by the conference office on Thursday.
The members of the team were selected by the league's Sports Information Directors for football. The Owls were the only school to place more than one member on the team, with East Carolina, Marshall, Memphis, SMU, Southern Miss, Tulane, Tulsa and UCF each landing one selection.
Junior safety Travis Bradshaw, who earned second-team Academic All America honors last week, was a repeat recipient of the Conference USA honor, and was joined by Rice seniors Cheta Ozougwu and Brandon Long.
A Chemical Engineering major, Bradshaw holds a 3.44 GPA in the classroom and has started in 11 of 12 games in 2010. He finished second on the Rice squad with 76 total tackles, and led the team with a pair of interceptions. He also forced a pair of fumbles and recovered two others.
Long was an ESPN Academic All District VI selection after posting a 3.70 GPA as an Environmental Engineering Sciences and Economics double major. He handled all the Owls deep snapping requirements for the past four seasons.
Ozougwu was also an ESPN All District VI selection as an Economics major with a 3.414 GPA. This season, he led defensive linemen with 54 tackles while starting all 12 games.
The 2010 C-USA Football Championship will take place Saturday, December 4 at Bright House Networks Stadium in Orlando, Fla. The game will showcase UCF and SMU and will be televised live by ESPN2, beginning at Noon EST/11 a.m. CST.
