Rice University basketball coach Ben Braun has announced the signing of wing player Jarelle Reischel to a National Letter of Intent.
Reischel (6-6, 208) grew up in Germany and currently plays for Point Pleasant Beach High School in New Jersey. Last year he averaged 23 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and 3.5 steals.
"We are thrilled to have Jarelle join the Rice basketball program," Braun said. "He will bring a scoring mentality to our team and his versatility will be a great asset."
Named the Kerwin Award recipient as the best player in the Shore Conference, he led the Garnet Gulls to a 20-6 record last year as a junior. Point Pleasant Beach set a school record for wins and won the Class B Central division of the Shore Conference with an 11-1 record, the school's first divisional title since 1968.
Reischel lived in Germany until he was 16 and became a starter his first season playing U.S. organized basketball. As a sophomore at Point Pleasant Beach, he averaged 21 points and nine rebounds. He earned First-Team All-Ocean County as well as Third-Team All-Jersey Shore honors his first season.
Point Pleasant Beach advanced to the third round of the NJSSIA Tournament Reischel's sophomore year.
ESPN Basketball Recruiting has Reischel as the No. 69-ranked small forward.
Reischel rounds out a three player signing class at Rice. Earlier, the Owls signed combo guard Julian DeBose (6-4, 190) and point guard Dylan Ennis (6-2, 175).
DeBose is a native of Washington, D.C., and attends St. John College High. Ennis currently attends Chicago Lake Forest Academy and is from Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
