Rice had three golfers in the Top 10 following Monday morning's round but a 304 team score later in the day dropped the Owls from a tie for fourth as a team to 13th after 36 holes of play at the David Toms Intercollegiate. The tournament being hosted by LSU at the Country Club of Louisiana in Baton Rouge concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
Rice freshman Jeff Wibawa fired an opening round 68. He was in second place after 18 holes but carded a 74 in the afternoon. He will begin play Tuesday at two-under par for the tournament (142) and tied for 15th individually. Michael Whitehead was tied for third following an opening-round 69 but a 74 left him one-under par (143) and tied for 23rd. Robert Burrow began the day with a 70 and was tied for ninth but an 80 in the afternoon left him tied for 53rd.
Rice began the day with an opening-round 287 and was tied for fourth with Middle Tennessee State. A 304 score by the Owls Monday afternoon left them with a two-round score of 591 (+15).
Host LSU shot an opening-round 283 and built on its lead with a second-round 276 for a two-round 559 score. At 17-under par, the Tigers have a seven-stroke lead over second place Arkansas and a 10-stroke lead over third place Middle Tennessee.
LSU's Austin Gutgsell, playing as an individual, and Ken Looper both have two-round scores of 137 (-7). The pair share a one-stroke lead over Louisiana Tech's Clinton Shepard and LSU teammate Andrew Loupe.
