
Callie Wells Sets School Record in 5000m

Palo Alto, Calif. - Senior Callie Wells set a new school record in the 5000m (section two) at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational held at Stanford University. Wells placed third with a time of 16:20.95, which surpasses Allison Pye's former-record time of 16:21.35. Wells' time also qualifies for the NCAA Regional.
Placing fourth was Britany Williams with a season-best and qualifying time of 16:24.42 and Becky Wade finished fifth with a qualifying time of 16:27.77. Williams' time is the third fastest in school history, while Wade's time is the fourth fastest in Rice history.
In the 1500m, Lennie Waite placed seventh in section two with a time of 4:20.09.
