Owls Fall to Tulsa in C-USA Title Match

The 37th-ranked Rice Owls saw their quest for a Conference USA title come up short as the 32nd-ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane took a 4-1 decision and capture a fourth consecutive league crown at the UCF Tennis Complex in Orlando, Florida.
Tulsa (21-9) broke out on top by taking the doubles point with wins in the No. 3 and No. 2 matches. Rice (17-10) tied the score when senior Tobias Scheil closed out a straight set win at No. 3 singles and the Owls held leads at both No. 2 and No. 5, but Tulsa stormed back with wins in the No. 6, No. 1 and No. 4 matches to down the Owls in the C-USA final for the fourth consecutive year.
The Owls will return to Houston for final exams and await the announcement of the field for the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships. Rice is looking for a seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA tourney. First- and second-round matches are scheduled for campus sites on May 8-9. The NCAA championships are scheduled for May 14-25 on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
