Rice Blanks SMU on Senior Day

The Rice men's tennis team closed out their 2009 home schedule with one of their most dominant performances of the spring, blanking SMU 7-0 on Senior Day at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
The Owls (14-9, 3-1) did not loose a match during the day, taking all three doubles contests in addition to all six single matches.
Rice seniors Christoph Müller and Tobias Scheil made their final home match a memorable one winning their doubles match in addition to their singles assignments. The 52nd-ranked duo in the country clinched the doubles point for the Owls with an 8-4 win. Scheil then won in straight sets at the No. 3 singles slot to give the Owls their third point of the afternoon.
Müller, who is ranked 46th in singles, had to battle back from a loss in his first set at No. 1 to 61st-ranked Robin Fahgen of SMU. Müller took the second set, 6-2 and then closed out the Owls win with a 6-3 decision in the third set.
The Owls will close out their 2009 dual schedule when they take on 12th ranked Texas A&M on Monday night in College Station. They open play in the Conference USA Men's Tennis Championships on Friday, April 17 in Orlando, Florida.
