The 36th-ranked Rice Owls men's tennis team blanked Texas Pan American 4-0 on the first day of play in the 51st annual Hampton Inn Galleria Rice Invitational. Because all teams are playing three matches over the next three days, each match is called when one team clinches with its fourth point.
The Owls took the doubles point thanks to wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots and closed out the match thanks to straight-set wins by Christoph Müller, Sam Garforth-Bles, and Christian Saravia.
In the first match of the day, the 38th-ranked San Diego State ran its record to 9-4, taking a 4-1 win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The Aztecs will open play Texas Pan American and Texas A&M Corpus Christi will open play on Saturday at 9 a.m. Rice will take on Texas A&M Corpus Christi at noon.
