HOUSTON - Rice University basketball coach Ben Braun announced Thursday the Owls had signed guards Trevan Abraham and J.R. Reynolds along with forward David Chadwick.
Abraham was an all-league and all-city performer as a junior at Sacramento, Calif., Charter High School where he averaged 14 points and three assists.
Abraham (5-8, 165) helped lead his high school team to a 27-6 record last season. The Dragons were both league and sectional champions, advancing to the finals of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Nor Cal championship.
"Trevan is a great competitor who has experienced a lot of success at the high school level," Braun said. "He has the ability to knock down three-point shots and beat his defender off the dribble. He is also very quick on the defensive end, leading his teams in steals each year."
Chadwick (6-9, 215) originally signed with Washington State University but was granted a release in the spring and is currently attending Hargrove Military Academy in Virginia.
As a senior at Charlotte Latin School a year ago, Chadwick averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks while shooting 54 percent from the field. As a senior he was named to the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association All-State Team.
"David is a very savvy and dedicated post player," Braun said. "He has the ability to post-up successfully and knock down perimeter shots. His experience and competitiveness will be great assets to our program."
Reynolds (6-5, 180) was a member of Whitney M. Young Magnet High School's Class 4A Illinois State Championship team last spring.
"J.R. is a proven winner playing for one of the top high school teams in the nation," Braun said. "His leadership abilities are outstanding and he continues to improve each year. He will help provide us with good size and length at the wing position."
