LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 13 Rice men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at No. 6 UCLA Wednesday afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
It was Rice's (8-3) first loss to a Top 50 opponent on the road this season.
The Bruins (9-1) won all three doubles matches. Mathieu Dehaine and Holden Seguso claimed an 8-4 win over Filip Zivojinovic and Chong Wang at the No. 2 position.
Jeremy Drean and Michael Look upended Dennis Polyakov and Bruno Rosa 9-7 at the No. 3 spot.
No. 16 Ralph Knupfer and Christoph Muller jumped out to a 6-3 advantage at the top of the lineup before Nick Meister and Harel Srugo forced a tiebreaker and slipped past the ranked pair 8-5 in the tiebreaker.
UCLA won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Wang won a second set tiebreaker at the No.5 slot to force a super tiebreaker before falling short to Drean.
Rice plays its third match in five days in the Golden State Friday at No. 53 UC Irvine. First serve is set for 3pm CT.
