
No. 32 Men's Tennis Drops Opener at USF

TAMPA, Fla. - The Rice men's tennis team lost its season opener at USF 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
Bruno Rosa and Chong Wang opened doubles play with an 8-2 victory over Mahmoud Hamed and Jamaal Adderley at the No. 3 position.
The Bulls evened the score moments later as Michael Nusslein and Lucas Jovita picked up an 8-2 win over Christoph Müller and Filip Zivojinovic.
Thomas Estrada and Daniel Daudt clinched the doubles point for USF (1-0) with an 8-5 victory over Ralph Knupfer and Tobias Scheil.
Estrada, Nusslein and Jovita secured the match for the Bulls claiming straight set wins in singles play at the No. 6, 5 and 2 spots, respectively.
Rosa put the Owls on the board and moved his singles winning streak to eight matches with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 triumph over No. 84 Hamed.
In the No. 4 hole, Zivojinovic rebounded from a 6-2 setback in the opening set and won 12 consecutive games.
Rice returns to the road Friday at No. 20 North Carolina State. First serve is set for Noon CT against the Wolfpack.
