HOUSTON -- The cross country season begins in earnest on Saturday morning when the Owls host the 33rd Annual Rice Invitational on the university campus.
The running commences at 7:30 am with the Yahoo Race, which is open to all runners, then the high school freshmen boys compete at 8 am. University competition begins at 8:20 am with the women's race followed by the men at 8:45 am. A total of 11 races will be run on Saturday morning, seven featuring competitors from 39 area high schools.
Joining the Owls in the university ranks are Houston Baptist University, Prairie View A&M, TAMU-Corpus Christi, TAMU-International and TAMU-Kingsville. A year ago, the Rice women won their division, while the men placed third.
Rice's intramural race is slated for a 9:50 am start.
Due to construction on campus, the year's course is located around the competition fields for Rice's rugby and lacrosse club teams near Rice Blvd., between entrances 18 and 20. The start line will be on the practice field directly across from McNair Hall, home of the Jones Graduate School of Business.
