Houston -
Rice junior distance runner Marissa Daniels of Pearland, Texas, was one of seven athletes named to the 2007 Conference USA Women's Track & Field All-Academic Team Monday by the league office. Daniels has a 3.82 GPA in kinesiology and holds the fastest time in the conference in the 10,000 meters at 34:07.04. She also has the second-best time in the 5000 at 16:44.44. Both marks qualify her for NCAA postseason competition.
The All-Academic team is comprised of six student-athletes with at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, who have served as a key component to their team's success. This year's women's team has seven members due to a tie for the final spot. Joining Daniels on the team are Keisha Walkes of UTEP, Marian Brooks of Marshall, Emily Malinowski of Memphis, Alex Becker of Tulsa, Jennifer Thompson of UAB, and Hana Prudilova of Southern Miss.
