Rice Downs ACU in Regular Season Finale

HOUSTON -- The regular-season finale was forced indoors due to rain, but the result was still a Rice victory as the Owls downed Abilene Christian, ranked No. 6 by the ITA in NCAA Division II, 4-3 on Friday evening at Chancellor's Famliy Center in Houston.
After losing the doubles point, the Owls came back strong in singles. Tiffany Lee evened the team score, beating Irene Squilliaci, ranked 17th nationally, 6-2, 6-1 at two singles. Julie Chao then put Rice up for good as she downed Aina Rafolomanantsiatosika, who is ranked 32nd, 7-5, 6-1 at the top spot. At three singles, Dominique Karas scored a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Holly Lindloff. Emily Braid clinched the team win at five singles with her 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 win against Lana Pavlin.
Next up for the Owls is the 2007 Conference USA championship, April 19-22 at Tulsa, Okla. Rice is the defending champ. Seeding for the tournament will be announced on Tuesday.
