The Rice Owls hosted over 200 high school players for during Junior Day on Saturday and marked the occasion by pulling on the full pads for the first time this spring.
"It was wonderful to have this many high school coaches out here to watch," Rice head coach David Bailiff said. "We had a great Junior Day today, we had over 200 high school juniors here today. It made this a special day at Rice Stadium," he added.
In addition to the juniors, the Owls also hosted a coaching clinic for over 50 area high school coaches who also stayed to watch the Owls engage in their first contact since the end of the New Orleans Bowl in December.
"I thought we came out here with great enthusiasm for our first day in pads. We started fast and finished even faster. We had a lot of personality out here and made a lot of strides as a football team today," Bailiff said.
"It looked like we showed pretty good team speed," Bailiff noted. "We had some guys take some great angles to the ball. We saw some offensive linemen sustain some blocks. The video from today will start to answer the questions we have," he added.
