
Rice Upset By Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Playing in their eighth-straight road match, the No. 17 Rice men were upset by No. 31 Florida State 5-2 in dual action on Friday afternoon in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Owls opened strong, taking the doubles point to strike first. Ben Harknett and Filip Paroci downed the Seminoles' Jean-Yves Aubone and Bradley Mixson 8-5 at No. 3 to even the doubles battle at 1-1. Ralph Knupfer und Tobias Scheil then secured the doubles point for Rice as they beat Ytai Abougzir and Maciek Sykut 8-3 at the top spot.
Florida State powered back in singles, sweeping at the six, three and five positions. Christoph Müller scored a win for the Owls at No. 4 singles, sweeping Sam Chang 7-5, 6-4. The Seminoles would hold on, though, taking three-set decisions at the top two ladder positions to earn the team win.
The loss drops Rice to 10-5 on the year, while Florida State improves to 9-5. The Owls continue their trip on Sunday, taking on No. 67 Miami at 10 am.
