TULSA, Okla. -- On their first road trip of the season, the Rice women were edged by Conference USA foe Tulsa 4-3 in dual-match action on Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.
The Golden Hurricane took the early lead with a sweep of doubles, then moved ahead 3-0 with wins at two and six singles. Dominique Karas got the Owls on the scoreboard with her 6-3, 6-3 victory against Eleonora Kuruc at the five position. With three matches going to third sets, Tulsa earned the team win when Santie Delport held off the Owls' Tiffany Lee in a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 decision.
Rice freshmen Julie Chao and Rebecca Lin added to the Owls' tally with wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Chao defeated Kindsay Grimes 5-7, 6-3, 10-5, and Lin won a 4-6, 6-4 7-6 (5) thriller against Thalia Diaz-Barriga.
The Owls (2-2) continue their stay in Tulsa on Sunday, taking on No. 45 Oklahoma State at 9:30 am.
