HOUSTON -- The No. 30 Rice men improved to 6-1 on the year with a commanding 4-0 win against No. 66 Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon at the Downtown Club at the Met.
The Owls secured the doubles point with wins at the top two positions. First, Ralph Knupfer and Tobias Scheil downed the Commodores' pair of Ryan Preston and Jordan Magarik 8-4 at No. 1. Jason Mok and Christoph Müller then held off Nik Cromydas and Evan Dufaux for an 8-6 win. The No. 3 doubles match was suspended once the point was determined.
Rice made quick work of Vanderbilt in singles, sweeping the two through four positions to clinch the team victory. The unranked Müller upset No. 97 Evan Dufaux 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 to improve to 6-0 in duals. Knupfer defeated Cromydas 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, while Filip Paroci beat Vijay Paul 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2. The remaining three matches were suspended once the team outcome was decided.
