Former Rice Coach Victor Lopez Earns National Award

PHOENIX - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) presented its most prestigious honor, the George Dales Award, to former Rice head coach and Athletics Hall of Fame member Victor Lopez this week in Phoenix, Ariz., at the organization's annual convention.
The George Dales Award goes to the individual who has enhanced the coaching profession for the sports of cross country and track & field. Lopez built the women's track and cross country programs at Rice in 1980 and served at the helm of the Owls' program for 26 years. He retired from Rice following the 2005 season, but still serves as the Chair of the International Association of Athletics Federations Coaches Commission. He has served as the Central American and Caribbean Athletics Confederation since 1998.
