
Rice Takes Eighth at NCAA Regionals

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The Rice men finished the 2007 campaign with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships on Saturday at Fayetteville, Ark.
Sophomore Brad Morris (Peachtree City, Ga.) was the first Owl across the line, finishing the 10K course in 31:03.1 to finish 24th overall. Junior Brett Olson (Flower Mound, Texas) was next for Rice with a 38th-place finish in 31:33.8. Wrapping up Rice's top 50 finishers were sophomore Scott Zivick (Humble HS), who was 47th in 31:56.5, and junior Justin Maxwell (Westside HS), who was 50th in 32:00.0.
No. 7 Arkansas won the team title, scoring 37 points, and No. 16 Texas was next with 52. Closing out the top-five team finishes were Texas A&M (101), Lamar (122) and LSU (188). Rice finished the day with 201 points.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi stand-out Shadrack Songok won the individual title, leading the field of 104 runners in 29:16.3. Lamar's Francis Kasagule was second in 29:23.4, while the Longhorns' Leonel Manzano was third in 20:30.7
The NCAA South Central region includes all NCAA Division I schools in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.
