The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has officially waived the transfer year-in-residence requirement in regards to sophomore basketball guard Bryan Beasley (Pflugerville, Texas) a transfer student-athlete from Texas A&M.
Beasley spent 2006-07 as a red-shirt for the Aggies and thus did not play for Texas A&M. Since the waiver has been granted by the NCAA Beasley now does not have to sit out a second-consecutive season and will have four years of athletic eligibility starting this campaign.
"I'm extremely excited for Bryan and for our basketball program," states Rice head coach Willis Wilson. "The NCAA, after looking at the totality of the situation, agreed that the well-being of the student-athlete is paramount and that Bryan should not have to miss a second season of basketball. I also would like to thank Texas A&M for its support of Bryan to continue his collegiate experience at Rice University"
The Owls will play Incarnate Word in an exhibition on Nov. 7 at 7 pm in Reliant Arena before playing at TCU on Nov. 13 in its season opener. Rice's first home game is Nov. 17 vs. Duquesne at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas at 8 pm.
