
Owls 11th At Chile Pepper Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The Rice men placed 11th among 32 teams and 259 competitors on Saturday at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Owls had their first four finish among the top 65, with sophomore Scott Zivick (Humble HS) completing the 10,000-meter course in 32:02.9 to finish 56th. He was quickly followed by juniors Brett Olson (Flower Mound, Texas) and Justin Maxwell (Westside HS). Olson was 57th in 32:06.1 and Maxwell was 58th in 32:07.5. Sophomore Brad Morris (Peachtree City, Ga.) finished 63rd in 32:16.0.
The host Razorbacks, ranked ninth, won the team title, placing five runners among the top 15 to score 47 points. Abilene Christian, the top ranked team in Division II, was second, scoring 74, while Virginia Tech was third with 162. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi stand-out Shadrack Songok won the individual title in 29:22.1, almost 13 seconds ahead of the pack.
The Owls return to action on Oct. 27 in El Paso when they vie for their first Conference USA title.
