Darryl Grant, a four-year letterman at Rice who went on to win a pair of Super Bowl Rings with the Washington Redskins, will be inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame on February 16. Grant is one of five San Antonio products who will be inducted at the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute, which will be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Grant played on both sides of the ball in his four years at Rice. He began his career as a center, then moved to nose guard as a sophomore and linebacker as a junior, before returning to the offensive line as a guard as a senior. He was drafted by the Redskins in the ninth round of the 1981 Draft as a guard, but moved to defensive tackle a year later where he became a starter in 1982 as the Redskins marched to their first Super Bowl title.

Grant helped spark that drive to the Super Bowl by returning an interception for a touchdown in the NFC Championship Game against Dallas. His celebratory spike of the ball after that score was featured on the following week's cover of Sports Illustrated.
The Redskins went on to defeat Miami 27-17 to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Washington returned to the Super Bowl the following year, but were defeated by the Los Angeles Raiders. Grant won his second Super Bowl ring in 1988 when Washington made a return to the Super Bowl by defeating Denver. 42-10.
Grant's three trips to the Super Bowl and two Super Bowl titles matches the most by any Owl. Larry Izzo of New England has also played in three Super Bowls and won a pair of rings.
Grant played a total of 10 seasons with Redskins before moving on to Tampa Bay for one final season. He currently lives in Centreville, Va where he works for a works for a Lexus car dealership.
