
Daniels 15th in NCAA 10,000 Final

Marissa Daniels finished 15th and Kate Gorry was 19th in the 10,000-meters to highlight Rice performances Thursday on the second day of the NCAA track and field championships at Hornet Stadium. Daniels, who also qualified for the national meet last year as a freshman, clocked 34:28.90, while Gorry finished at 35:04.91. A two-time national qualifier in cross country, Daniels went through 3000-meters in 11th-place at 10:04, and hit 5000-meters at 16:52. She slowed slightly over the next four kilometers before closing out the race in 3:26 for the final 1000-meters. Gorry picked up ground over the final half of the race to improve on her pre-meet ranking of 27th.
Rachel Greff cleared 4.10 meters/13-5.5 on her third attempt to qualify for the final of the pole vault. Greff, the Conference USA champion and school co-record-holder, made her opening height of 3.90/12-9.5 on her first try and matched that at 4.00/13-1.5.
In the prelims of the 1500-meters, Callie Wells had a personal-best 4:22.36 to place ninth in her heat and 17th overall, but did not advance to the final. Her time is the sixth-best in Rice history.
Friday's events include Krystal Robinson in the discus final, where she will try and improve one her fourth-place finish last year.
