Sacramento, Calif. -
Rice sophomore Rachel Greff placed 10th in the pole vault Saturday on the final day of the NCAA track and field championships at Hornet Stadium, just missing all-America status with her 4.05 meters/13-3.5 clearance. Greff needed two attempts to clear that height, and if she had made it on her first attempt, she would have tied for sixth with four other athletes. The Conference USA champion and co-holder of the Owls' record, Greff cleared the opening height of 3.95/12-11.5 on her first try. She missed on three attempts at 4.15/13-7.25, which would have given her sole ownership of the school record. Florida State's Lacy Janson claimed the gold with a best of 4.25/13-11.25.
The Owls finished with six points to tie for 37th in the team standings.
