Houston -
Rice senior Sarah Yoder received first-team honors on the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Women's Track and Field Team Selected By CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
Yoder, a former soccer player for the Owls, was an NCAA Midwest Regional qualifier in the 3000-meter steeplechase and narrowly missed advancing to the national championships as she finished sixth after suffering a fall on the fourth lap. She set a school record in the steeplechase at the Rice Twilight meet at the end of April, clocking 10:31.57. The San Antonio native was third in the 10,000-meters at the Conference USA championships, and added a seventh-place finish in the 5000-meters.
In the classroom, Yoder carried a 3.73 grade point average with a double major in in biochemistry and kinesiology. She is now eligible for consideration for national academic all-America, to be determined by sports information directors later this month.
CoSIDA's district VI encompasses all Division I schools in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
