El Paso -
Fresh off a school-record performance in the 5000-meters at Stanford two weeks ago, sophomore Marissa Daniels will lead Rice into the Conference USA outdoor track and field championships at Kidd Field Thursday as she seeks a second-straight league gold in the 10,000-meters. Daniels, who has already provisionally-qualified for the NCAA national meet in the 10k, won last year's WAC title by more than 30 seconds and tops the conference list this season. Also entered in the race for Rice are Sarah Yoder, Lea Garcia and Laura Kelley.
The Owls, who finished second at the C-USA indoor meet in February, will also have Andrea Jackson in the heptathlon on the opening day of the championships. Competiton in the multi-event starts at 9:30 am with the 100-meter hurdles, and the 10k is scheduled for 8:15 pm.
